And so it begins

well, it wasn’t quite a blog post, just a page trying to talk through the new media server, the page can be found here https://mdarch.dev.lincoln.ac.uk/adobe-flash/

It doesn’t cover everything, and doesn’t show just how much trial and error there was in trying to develop the application.

Trying to find solutions to problems and how to achieve features proved very difficult. You would search for issues, get numerous ideas and possible solutions and follow lots of different threads and avenues to only find out they don’t work. And what is most frustrating is when you find someone who had exactly the same issue, and they figured it out but didn’t say how!

Overall I found it a challenging but very rewarding (easy to say now it’s finished) project. Flash is something I’ve always wanted to have a play with properly and this has definitely given my an understanding and foot in the door into the language and technology.

I have since had a play with web services within flash, and there are quite a few possibilities that could be looked into. The main concern is with Accessibility, there are accessibility properties that can be set against objects, but without trying and playing with technologies to see how it works it’s hard to tell how effective they are.
